We hate to say it, but summer is slowly coming to an end. For some of us in the province, this is great news, because it means more time on the ski slopes or out on a Ski-Doo. However, for many people, especially on BC’s west coast, winter means rain, and lots of it; what better time to curl up in front of the fire and read a book, especially on BC heritage and history?
To get ready for winter books, this week, TimeTravelBC will be focusing on BC bookstores. If there’s one you think we should include, just let us know!
First up is…
BC Crown Bookstore
The Crown Bookstore is a specialty store operated by the province of British Columbia (i.e., the Crown) that focuses on BC heritage and history, and many, many other topics. For example, anyone can view and purchase a wide variety of nautical charts and maps, books specializing in titles about British Columbia, British Columbians and specialty giftware created by artisans from all across our province. The Crown Bookstore also carries all provincial Acts and Regulations.
The Crown bookstore recently moved a new storefront location in a beautiful heritage building on 514 Government Street – right across the street from the historic Birdcages convenience store, and just steps away from the Legislative precincts.
The Crown Bookstore has a vibrant Facebook page (give it a “Like”, and a photo gallery of its grand opening.
