Experience BC heritage at Barkerville's Dominion Day celebrations on July 1, 2011. Barkerville is the largest historic site in western North America, and features historic buildings and displays that recreate and preserve Gold Rush life in BC's Cariboo region, all in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains.
For nearly 150 years, each and every year Barkerville has celebrated Dominion Day. This year, a giant Dominion Day birthday cake will be served, and throughout the day visitors can enjoy and participate in traditional games and activities, such as broad jump, funny face contest, cracker eating whistle races, sack race, tug-o-war, egg toss, hammer egg-and-spoon race, and a grease pole climb.
There will be a parade through the center of town featuring performers in authentic period costumes, and the day will end with a dance in the evening and fireworks at 10pm.
Barkerville includes dozens of heritage attractions, including a well-preserved Chinatown, and shops, restaurants, and places to stay.
