Gold Rush Trail Chinese Construction Workers on the CPR National Historic Event
Thousands of Chinese workers left their homeland to eke out an earning, first through gold mining in the late 1850s and through the 1860s, then hiring on to build the transcontinental railway connecting the East and West coasts of Canada. Their work and tenacity allowed the government to fulfill its promise to tie the country together with a ribbon of steel.
