Started in 1873, some of the famous people resting here include painter Emily Carr; Gold miner Nelly Cashman; surgeon Dr. John Helmcken, and James Douglas British Columbia’s first Governor. Remarkable grave markers include a full sized angel, a bronze fireman’s helmet, a baby’s booties and many other fascinating gravestones. The cemetery is flat and easily walked, offering a landscape of Garry Oaks and wild flowers.
