Village Bistro at the Doukhobor Discovery Centre

The Village Bistro is located on the grounds of the Doukhobor Discovery Centre across from the airport in Castlegar. The Bistro specializes in famous Doukhobor vegetarian specialties such as borsch, vareniki, nalesniki and pyrahi. – all prepared in the Doukhobor tradition. A western cisine menu is also available. Interestingly, even the restaurant name has a historic connotation, as the name “bistro” originates from the Russian word “bystro” (which means “quickly”), which Russian Cossacks used to hasten the owners of French taverns when the Russian army entered Paris in March 1814.
